Users in MHM are analogous to users you might find under Redhat/Centos systems that have home directories. When a user is created, a home directory is created under /home on your server. The user then has rights to edit files only under that directory. However, users on MageMojo servers have read access to the files under any other users. This is useful for copying files as needed between users but still prevents one user from accidentally ( or maliciously) altering another user’s files.
Users should be used for SSH and SFTP access. There is no limit to the number of users you can add. You are free to organize your site(s) as needed. You may put all of your sites under a single user for quick management or disperse them across multiple accounts.
What can’t a user do?
Users cannot or should not be used for the following:
- Sharing directories, you cannot have multiple users manage the same files without conflict on MageMojo servers
- FTP over port 21, SFTP must be used alongside whitelisting your IP
- Edit files owned by root
- Install packages (such as via yum)
- System-wide changes
